Author Guidelines

Submission Guidelines

  1. Authors are responsible for submitting their manuscript to the most appropriate section of the Journal, based on the quality and type of text: “Thematic Issue,” “Transversal Openings,” "Visual Essays," "Interviews,” and “Reviews.” For the first category, the article must align with the specific theme of the respective Thematic Issue.
  2. All manuscripts must be submitted in PDF format, anonymized for double-blind peer review. Submissions will be accepted exclusively through the Journal's electronic platform, accessible at the following address: https://periodicos.udesc.br/index.php/ensinarmode/index
  3. Completion of the "metadata" during the file submission process is mandatory. Authors must update the requested data, including: a link to their Lattes CV or an equivalent for international authors (use the URL field to insert the link), ORCID iD (see instructions on how to obtain this international code at https://orcid.org/), a current email address, a brief biographical note in the “biographical summary” field, and their institutional affiliation at the time of submission.
  4. Texts submitted for publication must be original and of consistent academic merit. If the author(s) do not return the requested revisions in a timely manner and do not communicate their withdrawal from the publication process at any time, they will be prohibited from new submissions for a period of 36 months. Typically, the interval between publications with the same authorship is 24 months.
  5. The preferred qualification for an author submitting a work to the Journal's "Thematic Issue" section is a doctoral degree. Co-authors may hold a master's degree or be master's candidates. For the "Transversal Openings" section, the minimum qualification is a master's degree. For reviews, visual essays, and interviews, there are no restrictions regarding the author's academic qualifications. For special editions, the academic qualification rules of the associated academic event will be considered valid.
  6. The maximum number of co-authors is 3 (three), meaning one author plus two co-authors. Special cases will be evaluated by the editors and may or may not be authorized.
  7. The Revista de Ensino em Artes, Moda e Design requests that, in the case of co-authored articles, the specific contribution of each author and collaborator be registered. This information must be inserted at the end of the article and will be published with it, promoting transparency and recognition of each author's role. The Journal adopts the practice of listing author contributions based on the 14 categories proposed by the Contributor Roles Taxonomy (CRediT), such as conceptualization, writing, data analysis, among others. Rules and templates are available in the “Author and Contributor Contribution Statement” section.
  8. The title and subtitle must be typed in Portuguese with only the first letter or proper nouns capitalized. The title and subtitle must be translated into English and one other language: French, Spanish, or Italian.
  9. Keywords (3 to 5, as per library science standards) must be provided in the same languages as the title. The chosen terms should relate to the title, subject, and results of the research and should be present in controlled vocabulary normalization documents, such as those available from the National Library (http://acervo.bn.br/sophia_web). Editors may reject keywords that do not comply with this standard.
  10. In the final version intended for publication, authors must include their full name in the designated location in the template and, in a footnote, include a brief curriculum (up to 3 lines), a link to their Lattes CV, ORCID iD, and a current email address.
  11. Texts must contain subheadings and present research sources in detail. They are also required to clearly and objectively evidence the theoretical framework, the methodology employed, and the conclusions reached. This does not apply to visual essays, interviews, and reviews. Use the following template: [article template]. Note: It is necessary to download the file to your computer to edit it.
  12. Bibliometric reviews or similar (literature review, scoping review, narrative review, systematic review, meta-analysis, integrative review, meta-synthesis, among others) are no longer accepted for submission to this Journal.
  13. Grammatical correction and translation into a foreign language must be performed by the author(s) in case of article approval for publication in the "Thematic Issue" section. In the final version, in the last footnote, the name(s), email address(es), and qualifications of the professional(s) in Languages and/or Communication who performed the work of grammatical revision and/or translation must be provided for due credit.
  14. Articles submitted to the "Thematic Issue" section must possess an expanded abstract of 1000 to 1200 words in English [or Portuguese, if the original text is in another language]. This text must be sent in a separate Word file along with the final version, upon request by the Editor. [Expanded Abstract Template]
  15. If the text results from research funded by a funding agency, it must be cited at the end of the article, as presented in the Template.
  16. When submitting the work for evaluation, EACH author must also send a completed and signed Term of Acknowledgment and Consent along with the other submitted files as a supplementary document, saved in PDF. Thus, for example, if there is 1 author and 2 co-authors, three named and individually signed terms must be sent. [Term Template]
  17. To guarantee the academic quality of the Journal and fulfill the editorial mission of consolidating its field of knowledge, all authors who have had their work published will contribute to the evaluation of up to 3 manuscripts, in a blind process, in the editions subsequent to the publication of their work. Non-collaboration in the evaluation hinders the consolidation of the field, lengthens the editorial process, and causes delays for texts that could be contributing new and important research, teaching practices, and professional work in the fields of arts, fashion, and design. Based on this conception of an active academic community, new texts from authors who collaborate in the evaluation process are welcome.
