Bertolt Brecht was one of the greatest philosophers and directors of 20th century Western theater, whose legacy is a reference for political theater to this day. Through his ideas, pieces plays, poems and essays, the playwright reflected and conceived a dialectical theater that proposed ways to raise concerns in face of a world in transformation, with its immense economic, political, social and cultural contradictions. All this challenged – and still challenges – artists and teachers to think about the relevance of Brecht's proposals in aesthetic, political and, in the case of this dossier, pedagogical issues.

Suggested approaches:

  • Brecht: Political Author = Debates about political actions in the arts and education and their articulations with  Brechtian concepts and practices.
  • Brecht and Social Movement = Articles about the practices of collectives, organizations and/or social movements in dialogue with theater.
  • Performances and politics of the body from a Brechtian perspective = Articles that focus on revolutionary performance activity; artistic experiences focused on politically engaged theater and performance.
  • Brecht and Performing Arts Pedagogy: = Reports and articles about artistic and pedagogical practices in formal and non-formal spaces that encourage critical and emancipatory reflections.

In addition to articles, the dossier will include submissions in the following formats: reports, debates and dramaturgy.

All articles submitted are evaluated using a double-blind system (peer review); and publication will take place after approval by two ad hoc reviewers.
