Dossiê Temático: Teatralidades Negras, Africanas e Afrodiaspóricas

Black, African and Afrodiasporic Theatricalities

Since the beginning of the 21st century, the Brazilian performing arts field has seen the emergence of a profusion of experiments aimed at (re)affirming black cultures. Whether through a critical approach to the historical and social condition of black people or the recovery of the aesthetic and cultural repertoire originated by the Diaspora, such works have brought freshness to the scene, revealing theatricalities that suggest the construction of national black identities and call upon African diasporic matrices.

In different African countries, groups and artists have been investing in a diversity of artistic works that both experiment with new forms of language and rescue models obliterated by the colonial regime, advancing discussions about blackness, imperialism, post-colonialism, and race in contemporary times. As it is happening in Brazil, research carried out in parts of the African continent has also begun to observe traditional black cultural practices in the light of the performing arts studies, establishing a new field of investigation, in which western epistemologies and local practices intertwine.

It is by observing and seeking to understand this range of formalizations, experiments and discussions that take place in Brazil and in some African countries, that we invite researchers, artists, and other interested parties to share reflections, propositions, methodologies and works that address cultural practices and scenic works permeated by what we address as Black, African and/or Afro-Diasporic theatricalities. We will welcome articles, debates, dramaturgies, and testimonials that allow us to build a panorama of Brazilian and international Black theater, dance and performance, as well as traditional and contemporary, Black, African and diasporic, performance practices.

In addition to articles, the dossier will contemplate submissions in the following formats: reports, debates, dramaturgy.

All articles sent are evaluated in the double blind system (peer review); and publication will take place after its approval by two/two ad hoc reviewers.
