Dossier proposal

After the extraordinary changes seen in the last decades, theatrical language is being questioned. These changes have affected societies as a whole, giving prominence and visibility to hitherto invisible or subaltern populations, as well as expanding the presence and role of digital media in our daily lives. This expansion, of a sociological, anthropological, ethical, political and technological nature, whose breadth is impossible to measure, has imposed and continues to impose new habits of relationships, new realities of existence, and new parameters for what was called representation and what was considered theatre.

The notion of presence, so radically emphasized in certain propositions about what defines the theatre, has been contested by realizations that challenge its definitions and structures, pointing to other possibilities and developments in which this language changes, moves or succumbs due to other virtual realities. Thus, a crisis in terms theatrical theory is already taking place, forcing its rethinking, its potentialities, and wagers on what will be the theatre of the future.
