This article analyzes the Material de Avaliação Prática da Aprendizagem (MAPA) as a pedagogical device in Fashion Design education within the context of Distance Education (DE), articulating it with Ana Mae Barbosa’s Triangular Approach, pedagogical mediation, and critical and decolonial perspectives. The study is characterized as qualitative research with a descriptive-analytical approach, aimed at understanding MAPA through the analysis of experiences developed in DE Fashion Design courses, focusing on processes of reading, contextualization, and design practice. The results indicate that MAPA goes beyond its traditional evaluative function, becoming an organizer of the formative pathway and fostering student authorship, critical reflection, and the articulation of cultural repertoires. Pedagogical mediation plays a central role in sustaining these processes, particularly in challenging hegemonic references and valuing situated knowledges. The decolonial analysis reveals that MAPA contributes to the denaturalization of knowledge hierarchies in fashion education, broadening the understanding of sustainability and design as culturally, ethically, and politically engaged practices. It is concluded that MAPA constitutes a powerful device for critical education in Fashion Design within Distance Education, reaffirming the centrality of pedagogical mediation in meaningful formative experiences in digital environments.
