Escola Técnica Federal de Santa Catarina: Espaço Geográfico e Espaço Social

Resumo

Este artigo tem por objetivo discutir a escola, e neste estudo de caso em especial a Escala Técnica Federal de Santa Catarina, como Espaço Social (Bourdieu, 1997). O argumento é o de que, estas instituições, por diferentes aspectos, tendem a reproduzir, enquanto Espaço Geográfico reificado, o Espaço Social. A partir de um amplo questionário sócio-econômico realizado com os alunos da ETFSC, traço contornos gerais do “capital econômico” e do “capital cultural” (Bourdieu, 1997) da família destes. Associando a estas informações a idéia de Projeto (Velho, 987), construo um quadro em que, por questões estruturais da instituição e por características sócio-culturais dos diferentes sujeitos, a Escola tende a servir a uma camada da população ao qual a estrutura do capital e o “campo de possibilidades” (Velho, 1987) se adequa, reproduzindo o Espaço Social. Assim, se faz necessário refletir sobre os limites e possibilidades da educação em instituições públicas de ensino.

Abstract: This article aims to discuss the school, and, in this particular study, the Escola Técnica Federal de Santa Catarina, as a Social Space (Bourdíeu, 1997). The argurnent is that these institutions, in different aspects, tend to reproduce the Social Space, as a structured Geographic Space. Based on an ample social-economic questionary, answered by the students of ETF-SC, 1 draw general lines of the “economical capital” and “cultural capital” (Bourdieu, 1997) of their families. Associating these data to the idea of Project (Velho,1987), 1 build a picture in which, due to the institution’s structural matters and to social and cultural characteristics of the different subjects, the Escola tends to to be used by a population layer in which the structure ofthe capital and the “field of possibilities”(Velho 1987) fit in, reproducing the Social Space. Thus, the reflection about the limits and possibilities of education in teaching public institutions becomes necessary.
