Revista PerCursos– Faed/Udesc will accept for analysis, until até 11/23/2025, articles, reviews, interviews, and Portuguese translations of unpublished articles related to the theme of the dossierThe multiple “Asias”: regions, populations and historical processes

The Dossier propose to gather works whose main theme is the study of historical processes in the Asian continent, in its diversity, in the contemporary period. Thus, we consider that there are multiple “Asias”, encompassing different regions and regionalizations, such as the Middle East, South and Southeast Asia, Central Asia, East Asia, among others, which in turn constitute different populations, societies and internal and global articulations.

In recent years, the field of Asian History has expanded in the context of Brazilian academia, reflecting the need for a deeper study of this area in order to understand the contemporary world, and likewise, seeking a history beyond Europe. These initiatives aim to criticize Eurocentrism, to reflect on a more integrated history – which in some fields has been developed under the heading of Global History –, the approach to a trans-Asian story – going beyond national and regional borders –, to investigate the processes of decolonization – a primary concern of Post Colonial studies –, as well as to provide access to sources and the reading of Asian historical documents, among others. The global transformations at the turn of the 20th to the 21th century also shaped the interests and advances in studies on Asia. For example, in the Middle East, there is a focus on political issues, such as the impact of September 11 and the US “war on terror” campaign, as well as the Question of Palestine. Furthermore, there is a focus on the central role that China, India and Indonesia have been playing in the world, including the dynamics of the Global South, transforming and challenging existing global orders.

In this context, the Dossier seeks to bring together research that articulates various fields of knowledge, such as History, International Relations, Political Science, Geography, Regional Planning, among others, that are attentive to different historical processes, from the 19th to the 21st century, and that provide analyses with political, social, economic and/or cultural approaches to different regions and populations of these multiple “Asias”.

The dossier will be part of the 2026 edition and will be organized by professors André da Silva Bueno (Universidade do Estado do Rio de Janeiro), Carolina Ferreira de Figueiredo (Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo), Emiliano Unzer (Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo), e Murilo Sebe Bon Meihy (Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro).
