Resumo

Este artigo evidencia e documenta as diferenças de significado entre o termo “prolongation” em inglês e Prolongation em alemão, assim como a própria maneira como Schenker concebia este termo. Enfatizando que, para Schenker, a palavra descreve a relação orgânica da Ursatz com o nível frontal, uma relação estabelecida na camada “profunda” da obra, enquanto em inglês este termo denota a extensão temporal de um evento harmônico ou melódico. A concepção inglesa de “prolongation” não é ilegítima, mas oculta uma parcela da dimensão que o termo tem para Schenker.

Nicolas Meeùs, Paris-Sorbonne

Professor emeritus at the Sorbonne, Nicolas Meeùs is an analyst musicologist, theorist, historian of music theory and the main French-speaking specialist in the work of Heinrich Schenker, which he has translated and taught for many years. The Musical Heritage and Languages research team, which he led, has trained several specialists in musical analysis today with international responsibilities. Initiator of the Belgian Society of Musical Analysis, Nicolas Meeùs worked in Belgium, at the Musee instrumental de Bruxelles, which he directed, and at the Catholic University of Louvain, before occupying a chair of analysis at the Training and Research Units (UFR) of Musicology.
