Abstract

This article is restricted to the field of artistic research and focuses on the relationship between analysis and musical performance of Lowell Liebermann's Sonata for flute and piano Op. 23. Establishes a dialogue with the composer through references to a recent interview. Through resources in musical analysis and the authors' experience in musical performance, it presents compositional aspects of the work, interpretation suggestions and performance strategies.

Author Biographies

Lucas Martins Pedro , Zurich University of the Arts

Lucas Martins Pedro holds a Bachelor's Degree in Music, with a Major in Wind Instruments, with Emphasis on Transverse Flute, from the School of Communications and Arts (ECA) of the University of São Paulo (USP, 2017-2020). He has participated in music festivals in Brazil, Argentina, United States, Italy and Switzerland, in addition to having collaborated with the largest youth and professional orchestras in the State of São Paulo. He was the winner of the 1st "Jean Nöel-Saghaard" Competition (2020) and the 8th and 9th "Ernani de Almeida Machado" Prize (2019 and 2020). He was also awarded as an outstanding student at the "Galway Flute Festival 2016". He currently teaches transverse flute and is a fellow of the JOVENS TALENTOS program, from Sociedade Cultura Artística (2017-).

Adriana Lopes Moreira, University of São Paulo

É Professora Doutora Associada no Departamento de Música (CMU) da Escola de Comunicações e Artes (ECA) da Universidade de São Paulo (USP, 2004-) e no Programa de Pós-Graduação em Música da ECA-USP (2010-). É coordenadora do Grupo de Pesquisa TRAMA: Teoria e Análise Musical, voltado à aplicação de conceitos teóricos emergentes para a prática analítica de obras musicais (ECA e CNPq, 2015-). É colaboradora externa do Caravelas, Núcleo de Estudos da Historia da Música Luso-Brasileira, FCSH-UNL, Portugal (2012). A ênfase de seu trabalho está voltada a estudos sobre Teoria, Análise e Percepção Musical, atuando principalmente nos seguintes temas: Música dos Séculos XX e XXI; Almeida Prado; Olivier Messiaen; Piano.
