A digital wallet experience evaluation using a Self-concept based method

Abstract

The Self-concept method has the innovative feature of measuring the distance between the ideal and actual expectations, instead of considering the absolute grade received by an artifact. In this research, we used a method based on the Self-concept to evaluate the user experience of a digital wallet. Therefore, three prototypes of the same digital wallet application were evaluated using both the System Usability Scale (SUS) and the Self-concept-based methodology. Based on that, it was possible to define feelings/perceptions that qualify the experience with digital wallets and even evaluate successive versions of prototypes. The concept was considered less distant from the idealization of the test participants, and was generated insights based on users' experiences.

Walter Correia, Federal University of Pernambuco

PhD in Production Engineering from the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE) with a Sandwich period at the Technical University of Lisbon (UTL), in Portugal (2007), Master in Production Engineering from UFPE (2002), Specialist (Lato Sensu) in Ergonomics from UFPE (2001), and Bachelor in Industrial Design with Qualification in Product Design from UFPE (1999). Associate Professor IV of the Design Department at UFPE | Recife Campus and Permanent Professor at PPGDesign | Postgraduate Program in Design - Masters and Doctorate at UFPE. Coordinator of LaCAI - Laboratory for the Design and Analysis of Smart Artifacts since 2009, with operating order from UFPE. Alex Sandro Gomes, Federal University of Pernambuco

Alex Sandro Gomes is an Electronic Engineer (UFPE, 1992), Master in Cognitive Psychology (UFPE, 1995) and completed his doctorate in Educational Sciences from the Université de Paris V (René Descartes) in 1999. He works in the areas of Information Technology in Education with an emphasis in the design of learning environments. He is currently a Full Professor at the Informatics Center of the Federal University of Pernambuco (PPGCC CAPES 7) where he works as leader of the research group Cognitive Sciences and Educational Technology and Coordinator of the Professional Postgraduate Program in Computer Science. He is a Productivity Fellow, Technological Development and Innovative Extension from CNPq-Level 1D. Current coordinator of the Professional Postgraduate Program at the UFPE Informatics Center. In his associative activities, he is a member of the Academia Pernambucana de Ciências, of which he was vice-president of the Academia Pernambucana de Ciências (2019-2021) and is the current First Secretary, member of the Innovation Board of the Brazilian Association of Distance Education - ABED ( 2019-2021), Director of International Relations at ABED (2023-2027), member of the Council of the Brazilian Computing Society - SBC (2020-2021), President of the Special Commission for Educational Informatics - CEIE of SBC (2020-2021), and, member of the Special Committee on Human Computer Interaction - CEIHC of SBC (2010-2011). He coordinated 30 (inter)national events, including CBIE and IHC, promoted by SBC, Hipertexto and Ctrl-E. He has published more than 500 works in specialized journals, event annals, books and chapters. He supervised or co-supervised more than 70 master's dissertations and doctoral theses in the field. He was a visiting professor at the Faculty of Education at UFC (Benfica Campus), at the Department of Computer Science at the Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso, Chile, at the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics Research IGD, Germany, and at the Center for Digital Ethnographic Research ( DERC) - RMIT University, Australia and Center for Research in Education (CREN), University of Nantes. He performs advisory roles at CAPES, CNPq, FACEPE, FAPESB and FAPITEC. He has received numerous awards throughout his career. In 2018 he was awarded the Tércio Pacitti Prize by the Brazilian Computing Society for his work on the national scene in favor of Computing Education. He worked on technological innovation projects in cooperation with companies: CAPES, Cesar, CNJ, EMBRAPA, In Forma Software, Instituto Ayrton Senna, Grupo Positivo, Ministry of Education, MV Sistemas, Samsung, SEBRAE, SENAC. He works with Education and Popularization of Science and Technology, editing books for teacher training - Creative Teacher Series - and dissemination of Design. He works with innovative entrepreneurship as a mentor for the startup Redu.Digital, incubated at the UFPE Technological Center.

Fabio Campos, Breda University of Applied Sciences

degree in Electronic Engineering - (1989), a master's degree in Electrical Engineering - Department of Electronics and Systems (1991) and a PhD in Computer Science from the Federal University of Pernambuco (2004). He is currently an adjunct professor at the Federal University of Pernambuco. He has experience in the area of Industrial Design, with an emphasis on Product Design, working mainly on the following topics: design, product design, design methodology, knowledge representation and creative techniques.

Fabio Silva, Federal University of Pernambuco

Prof. Fabio Q. B. da Silva, graduated in Computer Science from the University of Campinas (1987). He holds a PhD in Computer Science from the Laboratory for Foundations of Computer Science, University of Edinburgh, Scotland (1992). He has a postdoctoral degree at the University of Toronto, Canada, in the area of software engineering (2011-2012). Between 2016 and 2017, he worked as a Senior Visiting Research Scientist at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, United States. He is a Full Professor at the UFPE Informatics Center, where he has worked since 1993. He participates as a reviewer in several international journals, including IEEE Software, IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering, Empirical Software Engineering Journal, Information and Software Technology Journal, Journal of Systems and Software, and Journal of Computer Standards & Interface. His areas of research, teaching and consultancy include human factors in software engineering, software teams and projects, innovation management, futures thinking and foresight, local and national innovation systems, and entrepreneurship. He has extensive experience in planning and implementing local production arrangements (APL) projects, having been the coordinator of the APL project in the State of Pernambuco, strategic planning consultant for the APL of Information Technologies in Maceió-AL and Viçosa-MG, of the Pernambuco Technological Centers project and one of the creators of the Porto Digital Technological Park in Recife. He was President of the Technological Institute of Pernambuco (1999-2001); Founding Associate and President Director of the Porto Digital Management Center (2001-2003), founder of the Center for Advanced Studies and Systems of Recife? C.E.S.A.R, of which he is Financial Director (1996-1998) and Chief Executive Officer (2013-2014). Prof. Fabio Silva is a Foresight Practitioner certified by the Institute for the Future (2015).
