Abstract

The study contributes to a better understanding of the cultural history of masculinity and sexuality. To do so, it takes as a basis Mart Crowley's play The boys in the band, their respective American staging (1968-2018) and their film version (2020) to print discussions about pre-Stonewall, pré-fechação, pré-lacração. The authors, following the impressions of Tony Adams (2011), take into account the central role that the exit from the closet - the male homosexual secret - plays in Western culture, but moving away from the dualistic logic, which forces the subject to leave or remain in the closet, allowing him to glimpse the politics of identity as always open, continuous, and never totally stable.

Especialista em gestão e políticas culturais pela Universidade de Girona (ES), Investigador Pleno do do CULT - Centro de Pesquisa Multidisciplinar em Cultura, da UFBA, Investigador Associado do CLAEC - Centro Latino-Americano de Estudos em Cultura e Investigador Colaborador do ILCML - Instituto de Literatura Comparada Margarida Losa, da Universidade do Porto (Portugal). É diretor artístico e dramaturgo da ATeliê voadOR Companhia de Teatro (http://www.atelievoadorteatro.com.br/). Possui estágio de Pós-Doutoramento em Literatura e Crítica Literária pela PUC São Paulo. É Professor permanente do Programa Multidisciplinar de Pós-Graduação em Cultura e Sociedade e Professor Associado II do Instituto de Humanidades, Artes e Ciências (IHAC) da Universidade Federal da Bahia. É Doutor em Letras com estudos nas áreas de Literatura Brasileira e Teatro (UFF), Mestre em Ciência da Arte (UFF) e Bacharel em Artes Cênicas e em Pedagogia, pela Universidade Federal do Estado do Rio de Janeiro (UNI-RIO).
