About the Journal
Focus and Scope
Revista APOTHEKE is a journal linked to the Graduate Program in Visual Arts at the State University of Santa Catarina (PPGAV/UDESC). It is dedicated to publishing original works in the field of Visual Arts and its connections with teaching and learning, resulting from artistic and educational practices and research with theoretical reflection. The journal accepts articles, visual essays, and experience reports resulting from theoretical or empirical research, and aesthetic-artistic-pedagogical experiences. The journal does not charge any article processing fees. Simultaneous submissions to other journals are not accepted.
The target audience of Revista APOTHEKE (PPGAV/UDESC) includes students, teachers, researchers, artist-researcher-teachers in the field of Visual Arts.
Peer Review Process
Revista Apotheke adopts a double-blind peer review process, in which each article is evaluated by at least two reviewers. Reviewers have up to two (2) weeks to submit their evaluations, with the possibility of a one (1) week extension, if requested.
Reviewers are selected from the editorial board members. In specific cases, the editors may also select ad hoc reviewers among PhD holders in Visual Arts and/or related areas, based on thematic affinities, as observed in the academic records and professional experiences listed in their Lattes Platform curricula.
Frequency
From 2015 to 2025, Revista Apotheke followed a quarterly publication schedule, releasing one annual volume composed of three numbers, each organized around a specific theme.
Starting in 2026, approved papers will be published in a continuous publication model within a single annual volume, no longer divided into three numbers. The volume may include thematic sections. The continuous publication model aims to expedite the dissemination of knowledge produced within the journal’s scope.
All submissions, including those for thematic sections, will follow the submission, review, and publication process as determined by the Editorial Team.

This journal offers immediate open access to its content, following the principle that making scientific knowledge freely available to the public promotes a greater global democratization of knowledge.

In order to ensure honesty and academic integrity, Revista Apotheke follows the Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors developed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). The commitment to uphold ethical and deontological good practices must be assumed by the entire editorial team, authors, and reviewers.
Therefore, in accordance with the recommendations established by the Committee on Publication Ethics, each party involved in the evaluation and publication process of the proposed articles must, at a minimum, commit to the following:
Duties of Editors:
-
Take responsibility for the content of the journal as a whole;
-
Strive to understand the interests of readers, authors, and members of the Editorial Board, as well as keep them informed about the journal’s goals and editorial policies;
-
Evaluate article submissions based exclusively on academic merit, disregarding the authors’ and their institution’s nature, including race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy;
-
Not use unpublished information for personal research without the author’s express consent;
-
Ensure the existence of a fair, impartial, and timely peer-review process, as well as transparency in the editing and publishing processes of manuscripts;
-
Identify and report possible cases of plagiarism or duplicate publication;
-
Guarantee the confidentiality of manuscripts;
-
Continuously improve the journal.
Duties of Authors:
-
Submit articles with an objective discussion, resulting from significant research work. An article must contain sufficient detail and references to allow others to replicate the work. Any form of plagiarism, fraudulent statements, or knowingly inaccurate claims constitutes unethical behavior and is unacceptable;
-
Not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal;
-
Ensure that the submitted work is original and has not been published elsewhere, in any language, and that authors have appropriately cited the work and/or words of others;
-
Follow copyright laws and conventions. Copyrighted material (e.g., tables, figures, or extensive quotations) must only be reproduced with proper permission and acknowledgment;
-
In the case of co-authorship, ensure consensus on the approval of the final version of the manuscript for evaluation or publication;
-
All authors must have contributed significantly to the work. The inclusion of authors after the article’s approval will not be accepted—except in exceptional cases judged by the journal’s editor-in-chief;
-
When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in their own published work, they are obliged to promptly notify the Editorial Team of the journal and cooperate with them to retract or correct the article.
Duties of Reviewers:
-
Assist the editor in making editorial decisions;
-
Ensure confidentiality during the peer-review process;
-
Declare any conflict of interest or inability to review;
-
Draw the editor’s attention to any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published article of which they are personally aware;
-
Prepare reports without personal criticism of the author. Reviewers must clearly express their views with arguments;
-
Not use ideas obtained through the review process for personal benefit;
-
Recommendations to accept or reject an article should be based on its importance, originality, and clarity, as well as the validity of the study and its relevance to the journal’s scope;
-
Reviews should be objective, and recommendations must be supported by solid arguments so that authors can improve the text. Relevant publications should be recommended when they are not cited;
-
Inform the editors when the manuscript does not fall within their field of expertise or when they know they cannot meet the deadline;
-
Respect established deadlines.
Conflict of Interest
Conflicts of interest may arise when authors, reviewers, or editors have interests that may influence, whether explicitly or not, the writing or evaluation of manuscripts. Conflicts of interest may be personal, commercial, political, academic, or financial in nature.
By submitting a manuscript for evaluation, authors are responsible for disclosing any financial or other conflicts that may have influenced their work. For a manuscript to be published, authors must acknowledge all financial support received for the development of the work. If authors are unsure about what may constitute a potential conflict of interest, they should contact the Editorial Team of Revista Apotheke at: revistaapotheke@gmail.com
Reviewers must disclose any conflicts of interest that may influence their judgment regarding the manuscript. When appropriate, they should declare themselves unqualified to review it.
