A etnografia da América indígena contém um tesouro de referências a
uma teoria cosmopolítica que imagina um universo povoado por
diferentes tipos de agências ou agentes subjetivos, humanos como não-
humanos - os deuses, os animais, os mortos, as plantas, os fenômenos
meteorológicos, muitas vezes também os objetos e os artefatos, todos
providos de um mesmo conjunto básico de disposições perceptivas,
apetitivas e cognitivas, ou, em poucas palavras, de uma ‘alma’
semelhante. Essa semelhança inclui um mesmo modo, que poderíamos
chamar performativo, de apercepção: os animais e outros não-humanos
dotados de alma ‘se veem como’ pessoas, e portanto, em condições ou
contextos determinados, ‘são’ pessoas, isto é, são entidades complexas,
com uma estrutura ontológica de dupla face (uma visível e outra invisível),
existindo sob os modos pronominais do reflexivo e do recíproco e os
modos relacionais do intencional e do coletivo. O que essas pessoas
veem, entretanto - e que sorte de pessoas elas são - constitui
precisamente um dos problemas filosóficos mais sérios postos por e para
o pensamento indígena (Viveiros de Castro, 2015a, p.44).
É nesse contexto cosmopolýtyco que emerge a fygura do xamã
panamazônyco, ou das terras bayxas, dyrýamos, y o que poderýamos chamar de
troca perspectyvysta, ou de yntercâmbyo de ponto de vysta, que é o elemento
central do seu fazer. Para exemplyfycarmos essa troca de perspectyva,
retomemos o exemplo clássyco usado por Viveiros de Castro (2015ª), que toma
como personagens os humanos, jaguares y porcos-do-mato:
Ao andar pela mata em busca de caça, um yndýgena se depara com um
bando de porcos-do-mato. O yndýgena se vê como gente, mas os porcos também
se veem como gente. Na ympossybylydade de duas espécyes – em condyções
normays – se verem como gente, os porcos, que são predados pelos humanos,
mas que se veem como gente, enxergam o humano como jaguar, uma vez que ele
os caça. Nessa sytuação, o lamaçal em que se chafurdam os porcos é seu terreyro
rytual, sua aldeya; seus carrapatos são adornos; suas presas as armas; y sua
pelagem traz padrões da pyntura corporal. Dygamos, contudo, que esse mesmo
yndýgena, andando outro dya pela mata, se depare com uma onça. O yndýgena se
vê como gente, mas também o jaguar. Nessa ocasyão o homem vê a onça como
tal, mas onça, que caça o homem, se vê como gente y ao homem como porco-
do-mato. Esse complexo perpectyvysta, essa troca de pontos de vysta yntrýnseca
ao que se poderya chamar de metafýsyca da predação, contudo, não está restryta
aos momentos de caça y nem ao reyno anymal, a posyção humana, precárya y
sempre em dysputa, se aplyca a tantas outras relações, às plantas, espýrytos,
