A Biopolítica da AIDS: Formas de Prevenção ou Controle?<br>The Biopolitics of AIDS: Ways of Prevention or Control?

Resumo

O presente artigo tem por objetivo compreender a influência da categoria biopolítica de Foucault nas estratégias científicas utilizadas para o controle da AIDS. Dessa forma, procura-se discutir a biopolítica, como categoria de análise para entender como a ciência médica age sobre o doente de AIDS. Argumenta-se que a preocupação da medicina com a prevenção da AIDS se detêm sobre a epidemia através do controle do comportamento sexual do sujeito, seu corpo e seu desejo. A AIDS está atrelada, pela ciência médica, à um corpo doente com características marcadas pela sexualidade e pela moralidade. O artigo está dividido em três partes, tratando respectivamente: características atribuídas às pessoas que desenvolvem a AIDS; a descrição da categoria da biopolítica em Foucault e por fim, as relações entre a categoria da biopolítica, com o corpo doente de AIDS. Observa-se através deste estudo um direcionamento da ciência médica em minimizar os riscos da disseminação da AIDS através do controle do corpo, dos desejos e das paixões.

Abstract: The present article aims at understanding the influence of Foucault’s category biopolitics on the scientific strategies used for the control of AIDS. Thus, it presents a discussion of biopolitics, as an analytical category to understand medical science’s attitude concerning the person afflicted by AIDS. It is argued that medicine’s concern with the prevention of AIDS focus on the epidemic through the sexual behavior of people, their bodies and their desires. AIDS is tied, by the medical science, to a sick body, characterized by sexuality and morality. The article is divided in three parts: characteristics attributed to people who develop AIDS; the description of Foucault’s category biopolitics; and the relations of the category biopolitics with the body afflicted with AIDS. It is possible to observe, through this study, an attempt by the medical science in minimizing the risks of the spread of AIDS through the control of the body, desires, and passions.
